Press Release Purdue Pharma Expects to Relieve Inventory Management Pain with SmartForecasts
Belmont, Mass., September 14, 2006 - Smart Software,
Inc., a provider of industry-leading demand forecasting, planning and inventory
optimization solutions, today announced that Purdue Pharma, a privately held
pharmaceutical company known for its pioneering research on persistent pain, has
purchased SmartForecasts® Enterprise for its Canadian headquarters in
Pickering, Ontario. Purdue is integrating SmartForecasts with its JD
Edwards ERP system, and expects the new system to help reduce inventories while
maintaining high service levels.
Purdue Pharma has been using a smaller SmartForecasts system for almost 10
years. The move to SmartForecasts Enterprise represents a significant
upgrade that will enable the company to replace another vendor's less capable
system. In addition to the upgrade, Smart Software has provided consulting
and integration services that will enable Purdue to integrate SmartForecasts
with JD Edwards, which will enhance alignment between the company's Marketing
and Materials Management groups, as well as reduce costs associated with data
re-entry.
The resulting customizations will also enable the groups to generate accurate
forecasts and inventory stocking recommendations that optimize inventories and
account for often long lead times for raw materials. In addition, Sales
and Marketing personnel will be able to generate a series of reports that will
help them manage planning and budgeting.
"What I've always appreciated about SmartForecasts is its intuitive
ease-of-use and robustness," said John Stewart, executive vice president and
general manager, Purdue Pharma Canada. "However, to improve inventory
management, we need to improve the way we make stocking decisions. We
expect that, with the advanced capabilities of SmartForecasts Enterprise and the
consulting work provided through Smart Software, we'll greatly improve the
efficiency of our operations."
SmartForecasts is a cross-industry solution for demand forecasting, planning
and inventory optimization with many users in the pharmaceutical industry.
Its patented intermittent demand forecasting technology is deployed by scores of
companies with service parts operations, as well as industrial tools and capital
goods manufacturers. SmartForecasts integrates with Oracle, IBM DB2, and
Microsoft SQL Server, as well as ERP and SCM systems such as Epicor, Adonix, and
SAP.
