Press Release Smart Software Named One of the 'Hottest Companies' of 2004 by Leading Manufacturing Publication
Wins Top Award for Innovation from Start Magazine
Belmont,
Mass., July 7, 2004 -- Start Magazine has chosen Smart Software, Inc. as one of
its "Hottest Companies of the Year," in its seventh annual awards program. Smart
Software is a leading provider of demand forecasting, planning, and inventory
optimization solutions. The Start Magazine award was created to recognize
software and hardware vendors that have developed innovative applications or
products for the manufacturing industry. Companies were judged on their growth
record during the last few years, how their product/service is unique, and how
they are meeting customer demands.
"Smart Software has moved from a 'Company to Keep an Eye On' in our
competition two years ago to one of the 'Hottest'," said Peggy Smedley,
editorial director and founder of Start Magazine. "It has experienced solid
revenue growth in a very competitive market, and its innovative intermittent
demand forecasting technology is catching on with companies that have long
sought a solution to their inventory planning challenges. Smart continues to
provide a strong value proposition to manufacturers in need of better demand
forecasting and inventory management."
Since being recognized by Start Magazine, Smart Software has experienced a
number of outstanding achievements. In the past two years, revenues have grown
59 percent, with 25 percent growth in the most recent fiscal year ending May 31,
2004. The past year also witnessed the adoption of Smart Software's flagship
product, SmartForecasts, by major corporations, including Monsanto, Nikon,
Pfizer, Analog Devices, Schutt Sports, JEOL Datum and many others.
Additionally, during the past year, Smart continued to build its distribution
with strong contributions from new resellers in Canada and Latin America, as
well as strengthened relationships with partners, Epicor and Adonix
Software.
The efficacy of Smarts' innovative, patented technology for forecasting
intermittent, or slow-moving, demand has been validated by a growing number of
companies with hard-to-forecast inventories. This was especially true with
companies in the $158 billion automotive aftermarket. These companies have
problems forecasting because a large percentage of their inventories consist of
slow-moving products. Recent adopters of Smart's technology in that industry
include Dana Corporation, Prevost Car, Rally Manufacturing, Panelite, Sonnax,
Chicago Rawhide (a division of the Swedish-based SKF Group), and CRP
Industries.
"We are honored that a magazine with the stature of Start has chosen to
recognize the hard work and technological achievements of our staff," said
Charles Smart, president of Smart Software. "We will continue to help our
customers solve their toughest inventory planning and forecasting challenges
with robust, scalable, easy-to-use solutions that deploy the latest technologies
and deliver exceptional customer value."
